Scarecrows
The
now famous (as seen on TV and heard on radio) Thornhill Scarecrow
competition gets under way - this year we are hoping for over 100
effigies ranging from the traditional to the artistic and from the ridiculous
to the downright rude.
Last years winner was Nessie emerging from a hedge, with runners up including
a rooftop Highland cow and a Giant Mermaid soaking herself in the
bath. See more of previous years
entries here
If
you're coming from afar best to come and see the scarecrows on gala
day itself (30th) when they 'll all be out in all their glory!

The ghost walk!
Back by popular demand -
come with us on a spooky tour and see the dark side of Thornhills past -
listen to the story of the whispering gap before daring yourself to pass
through, experience the gruesome murder by Burke before he met his
partner Hare and wonder if the rustle in the hedge or the draft around
your feet is of this Earth...or another

Gala Day!!
From 2pm - come and join us
on the South Common for an afternoon of fun and frolics including loads of
"to do" stalls for kids and adults like golf targets, archery,
coconut shy, plate smashing etc., plus a beer tent, bbq and live music.
Join in the wheelbarrow races or toss a sheaf, watch the highland dancing,
have a cup of tea and a scone, enjoy the fancy dress parade. Let the kids
play in the straw play area, watch the footie competitions and then put
your feet up and rest them for the evening ceilidh.
There's free parking next to the gala field.
